Desertdoll is here to introduce a really amazing week at…..

One of my dearest friends and loyal MM member Pamelairene has worked in the management office of the Southern California landmark shopping destination South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA for 18 years. To call this a mere mall would be doing it a disservice, as you’ll soon see. Being a world champion shopper, it was shameful that I had never been there. On my last visit to Pam, we finally decided to make it right and sauntered over. I was so happy, I was nearly speechless. Tiffany, Chanel, Cavalli, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, La Perla, you name a designer/fashion brand and they probably have a boutique there. In those stores it was all about window-shopping. But it was quite a different story in the beauty stores. Shu Uemura, Fresh, Kiehl’s, Jo Malone-my head was spinning and my credit card got quite a workout. It got me thinking…why not spotlight not only this amazing place, but all the gorgeous beauty brands located within it? A call to Meg, a slew of calls to Pam and we’ve got South Coast Plaza week at!

South Coast Plaza has over 280 boutiques and department stores located on the 114 acres it calls home. Not only do they attract visitors from around the world, they actually attract more visitors than Disneyland, over 23 million visitors annually! Recently celebrating its 40th year anniversary and completing a $155 million dollar renovation, when they say they have “the élan of New York’s Fifth Avenue, the bling of Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive and the aura of Paris’ Champs Elysees” they really aren’t kidding. This is one of the nation’s most luxurious shopping destinations, not just for fashion and home furnishings, but the Plaza also has world-class spa services and Zagat honored restaurants. But if for some reason shopping, spas and gourmet food aren’t your cup of tea (really, what’s wrong with you?) it’s also one of the cultural and social centers of Orange County, as it’s also home to the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Segerstrom Hall, the Tony-award winning South Coast Repertory Theatre and the architectural masterpiece, the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

We must thank not only Pam for making Megsmakeup day at The Plaza a reality, but a sweetheart of a man named Werner Escher, Executive Director of Domestic and International Markets, the man responsible for turning SCP into one of So Cal’s top tourist destinations, and his executive assistant, his right hand woman if you will, the amazing Lynn Kozlowski. They really went above and beyond in planning our day. And to say this one of the most exciting days in our lives would not be an exaggeration!

We met at one of their valet parking stations (complimentary to us) and were handed itineraries and gift bags from South Coast Plaza containing necessities for a day of intense shopping, a camera, water, a directory plus a really cute SCP leather luggage tag. We’ll talk more about the destinations and what was in-store for us at each one as we feature a separate store each day this entire week. 7 stores, 7 gift bags, 6 very happy women. Keep in mind this was a 2-day event, ended spending the next morning at The Spa at South Coast Plaza with massages and facials! Luckily, Meg booked us a night at the lovely Westin South Coast Plaza so that after one day of intense shopping we could just walk a few steps across the park that separates the spa from the hotel.

I asked Werner to sum up why he thinks SCP is so unique. He told me “South Coast Plaza in each of the passing 40 years since first opening has changed and continues to transform itself, ever mindful of the demands and taste of the customer, dating back to when we first introduced valet parking (5 stations today), concierge service (4 desks today) into the world’s shopping center mix. Today, travel writers have proclaimed that South Coast Plaza is “the ultimate shopping resort,” but what we’ve heard from the more than 23 million that annually cross our threshold is that truly South Coast Plaza is all about “The Experience”.

Best part about it is that you don’t have to be a writer for a beauty site to enjoy this place. If you’re a So Cal resident, get there! And if you’re not a local, why not plan a weekend trip? Within minutes from the John Wayne airport, you’ve got one of the most amazing shopping destinations in the world. Plus, you can see a show, go to dinner, get a spa treatment and more! Really, we just can’t speak highly enough of this place. So without further ado we bring you South Coast Plaza week at!
