Sharond here! Sharond learned a few a new things . . . . .

Recently I had the unfortunate chance to sit in a waiting room for several hours.  Thankfully there were several magazines to look through.  Trying to use Meg’s positive attitude and make lemonade out of lemons, I thought perhaps these magazines might have some useful information that could help all of us.  The following snippets of hints and quotes come from Cosmo, Elle, Town and Country, Allure, People and several other women’s magazines.

Make your eye shadow last by dipping your makeup brush into a drop of saline contact solution before applying eye shadow.  The salt in the solution will make the shadow extra moist since salt retains water, giving the pigment staying power.

Clean your curling iron or flatiron.  Dunk a towel in water mixed with ¼ cup baking soda, then wipe down the plates of your tools to keep them clean.

Mix ¼ cup of vinegar with a cup of water and pour over dry hair.  Follow with a cool shower.  The acidity in vinegar breaks down residue like dirt, pollution and smoke to make hair look glossy again.

Wash your hair without water.  Excess product is the number one culprit for dull locks.  Apply shampoo to dry strands since water forms a barrier between hair and the cleansing agents, then rinse.  Doing so helps remover any leftover styling products.

If your scalp gets oily, do a weekly remedy.  Dip your brush into a cup of cornstarch as it aids oil absorption and run it through strands.  Wait 10 minutes.  Your hair will soak up most of the cornstarch, but run a comb through afterward to remove any leftover particles.

If you don’t prep your skin right, faux tans, even the expensive treatments you get at the spa, last just three to five days.  Engage in a little SL&M which stands for scrub, lighten up and moisturize and your tan will last much longer.  Scrub your body with an exfoliatior, next Lighten up on the amount of self tanner you use by applying only one layer and finally Moisturize with body oil in addition to a thick lotion.

Be a bit mysterious when trying to attract new people. They will be more intrigued if they don’t know everything about your life.

People are happier when they spend money on experiences rather than on possessions.

Three things every “chick” should know. 1) Pass off takeout as a home cooked meal by putting the food in a pan.  2) Uncork a bottle of wine. 3)  Make quick hor d’oeuvres.

If you get tired in the afternoon, eat a lighter lunch.

Less is more.
