Well, we’re back into it all here at! It’s Chichi, here with my first Green Chi Tuesday of 2008. I hope you all had a spectacular New Years Eve celebration where you where able to wear a glamorous outfit and amazing make-up while talking to fascinating people. I spent mine on the couch, nursing a cold, thinking about resolutions and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs – exciting, no?

I’ll be back with our regular eco-friendly reviews next week – we have a ton of new and exciting products lined up in the coming weeks. In the meantime I thought that this week we could all talk about our Green New Years Resolutions for the bright and shiny year ahead.

I am one of those sad people that always make the same resolutions every year (eat better, exercise more, etc) and than I promptly revert back to my old habits by the 15th of January. Not this year! I decided to make just One New Years Resolution in the spirit of my Green Chi column and this time actually stick with it! Why only one you say? Because I know trying to make multiple resolutions can get overwhelming and frustrating. But one resolution I can do.

So, here goes: I hereby declare that the Year 2008 is the year I will replace all of my burnt out traditional light bulbs with energy saving Compact Fluorescent Bulbs.

Did you know that traditional light-bulbs use 90% of their energy emitting heat? Talk about wasteful! Today’s, energy efficient light bulbs will cost you a little more but can save money in long run. These modern light bulbs use approximately 70% less energy than incandescent bulbs and produce the same light output. Additionally, they last around ten times longer than a standard bulb and emit far less heat. Since, I am starting small, I‘m placing my first CFL bulb in the (constantly burnt out) overhead light in my bedroom. As the other lights in my home need replacing, I’ll continue to install these energy saving bulbs. I’ve found a nicely priced bulb on and have just placed my order for two bulbs. The Globe 13-Watt Ultra-Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb is equivalent to a 60W regular incandescent bulb and is reasonably priced at $12.99. Each bulb meets Energy Star® guidelines for energy efficiency and is warranted to last 5 years. Sounds like a great way to kick off the New Year!

If you just aren’t ready to make the switch to new bulbs, DESERTDOLL had a great challenge for you all: When you run out of one of your regular beauty items, make the switch to an eco-friendly substitute. Just replacing one or two items this year with a green alternate can make a difference – as the R.E.M. poster hanging in my 90’s dorm stated “think global…act local”. Your new organic shampoo could change the world!

And since I can’t resist making a few other New Years, let’s call them Declarations; here are the other promises I’ve made to myself. I’m including some tried and true products, as well as a few new favorites of the ladies at megs, that will help me keep my resolve:

I will apply moisturizer with an SPF to my face every morning. Luckily, this is one I can keep fairly easily. I’ve been squeezing the last drops from my Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Cream with SPF 15 this week. When that’s gone, I have an unopened Juice Organics SPF 30 Light Tint Moisturizer to try. Other great green alternatives include Korres Balancing Moisturizer with SPF6 in a Pomegranate scent and Boscia’s Vital Daily Moisture SPF 15. Protect you face with a product that helps protect the earth!

I will wash my face before bed every night. So simple and yet so hard! However, since I’ve found so many fantastic and eco-friendly washes, this nightly ritual has become much easier for me. Besides my beloved Suki Lemongrass and Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel, I highly recommend Arcona’s Raspberry Acne Bar (Spoiler: reviews coming soon!), as well as Boscia’s Smoothing Facial Polish and von Natur’s Balance Facial Exfoliant. I guarantee finding a wash you love will help you to keep this resolution!

I will make a better attempt to keep in touch with the people I love. I can be a bit of a hermit and a slacker on returning phone calls and emails. It’s doesn’t mean I don’t love my family and friends; I’m just lazy sometimes. I’m vowing to make a change and I figure with my new efforts to keep in touch, I’ll need some little (green) presents for all the dinner parties I’ll be attending. Aromafloria’s beautifully boxed candles, Tsi~La Organics Eau De Parfum Collection or a selection of any John Masters products (such as the Blood Orange & Vanilla Body Wash paired with the matching Body Milk) would make very chic hostess gift!

Ladies, I’d love to hear about your Green New Years Resolutions! Also, if there is any eco-friendly product you’re just dying to see in a megsmakeup review, let me know. I’ll do my best to bring them to you in 2008!
