DO YOU SEDU?
At some point in the game, I stepped it up a notch. Then I stepped it up another notch. Then another-nother notch. Why? Because unfortunately sometimes in life it’s true: you get what you pay for.
Dermatologist-grade skincare products are better than Oil of Olay. A $20 lip gloss will go on better than a $2 one. A high-end sunscreen that absorbs into your skin instead of sitting on top in a white film is worth its weight in gold. And don’t even get me started on the splendor of cashmere…
Once you starting sinking serious money into skincare, cosmetics, and haircare, it becomes quickly evident that you need to have the right tools to make them work. Sure, you can use a sponge tip applicator to apply a $15 eye shadow, but it’s not going to go on the way it should, or could, and it’ll start to come off the minute you walk out the door.
This is, in my oh-so-humble opinion, especially true with hair. I spend a small fortune on my hair every year. 3-tone highlights do not come cheap. My hair never looks as good when I style it as it does when I walk out of the salon. But you have to wonder why this is. Certainly, part of it is talent — I’m by no means a hair stylist. But the other part is that they’re using salon-grade products and professional tools.
Many, many years ago, I stopped buying shampoo at the drugstore. I started buying it in salons. Huge difference. Huge. Then I sunk a small fortune into a certain line, made in France, sold only at selected salons, that for the price of a shampoo, conditioner, and masque, will dang near pay for round-trip airfare to France. And it was absolutely, 100% worth it. My hair had a complete turnaround. But nothing made a bigger difference than when I shelled out the big bucks for the right tools.
I’d been (I shamefacedly admit) using a drugstore-brand hair dryer. My roommate got a mid-priced dryer from the beauty supply store. Wow!!! When I used it my hair went from puffball to… well, something I could work with. Then I stepped it up from there and got a professional-grade hair dryer. Oh. My. God. I had no idea it could be this good. Out went the untamed beast that is my hair. In came controlled, smooth, shiny, healthy. Seriously, I think you have to experience it to understand it, and once you do there’s no turning back.
The enormously generous Richard BenBassett of American Beauty Supply was kind enough to send me a box so full of goodies it nearly brought tears to my eyes. A Sedu dryer, flat iron, and loads of Sedu hair products. Sedu’s reputation precedes them. Their irons and straighteners have become a classic with a cult-like following. It’s all about the technology. In BenBasset’s own words: “Anyone considering purchasing flat iron probably assumes [that there’s] a significant difference in both quality and performance of these flat irons and they are correct.” Indeed they are. Indeed they are. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
So Ladies, Do You Sedu? What has you shelling out the big bucks!
