Every other Wednesday Krista brings you the best hair out there!
I can’t remember when I didn’t have problem hair. I’ve been on the search for the holy grail of hair products for at least two decades. A lot of the latest “hot” products on the market end up being disappointing. Other peoples’ favorites can end up falling flat when faced with my hair. Every once in a while I’ll come upon something that does the job. Every great once in a while I’ll find something I really like. But it’s seldom that I find a product that’s flat-out amazing.
The uber-fab Alicia Resnicoff sent me some offerings from the Italian line, Barex. It’s not a line I was familiar with – although apparently the cast of “Desperate Housewives” is. People magazine did a story in June on their stylist featuring the Barex Frizzy Hair line. (Frizzy Hair! Now you’re speaking my language!)
I got the Colourlife Shampoo, & Conditioner and Frizzy Hair Re-Define Crème in these cute little 3 oz. bottles that are designed for you to toss in your carry-on and still make it past security at the airport and through your flight without leaking. They kind of look like baby bottles with a flip top lid. Or craft glue. Fantastic travel design and super cute to boot. And they’re about double the size of most travel-sized shampoos, which means they’ll make it through a week-long vacation or an overnighter.
I know I go on about this ad infinitum every week, so I’ll try to keep this part brief. Flip-top=Good. But the full-sized containers come with a… you guessed it! PUMP! My recommendation? Get a mini and a full; that way when the travel size runs out you can refill it from the pump!
I took these with me when I was on vacation with my sister. She had recently put blonde highlights in her virgin dark brown hair. I tell ya, hair virgins just don’t know how the other half lives until they’re deflowered. They kvetch and kvetch about how dry and damaged their hair is, and it doesn’t feel the same, it doesn’t look the same, yadda, yadda, yadda. Uh, ya. You just stripped the hell out of it. No, it’s not the same. And yes, it must be treated differently.
Fortunately this former virgin was traveling with the right person. She kept telling me how much she loved the Barex products and how she was trying to find it in Canada (where she lives) and was basically having a nervous breakdown trying to deal with her hair without them.
Having a bathroom full of other products waiting in line, I didn’t try it until yesterday. That hair-whore wasn’t kidding! After I washed and conditioned, my hair felt like silk. Silky-soft and smooth. I put on my requisite FF Glossing Cream, blow-dried, and flat-ironed. Then I used the Re-Define to smooth, touch up, and piece-out.
I kid you not, I got a new haircut in May and it has never looked this good. Like it does when I leave the salon. My hair stayed perfectly styled, without any crunchy, greasy, sticky or oily side effects. I even got a compliment from a co-worker (which never happens. I work with a bunch of men, most of ‘em Engineers, so I’m sure that’s why no one ever takes notice of my hair). And I’ll also add that I can not remember ever only needing one product to do myself up after drying and ironing.
I seldom say this, but go to the link and do yourself a favor! You will thank yourself for it – and hopefully me. If not, more news next week 😉
