TRANSLUCENT POWDERS! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!

Katie here! bringing you the indside from Sephora like only an insider can!

I think that most women are pretty well on the band wagon or Makeup Primers. They hydrate, they adhere. They are some all around fabulous products. Smashbox, Laura Gellar, Tarte, NARS….all have great primers. But I’ve decided that the next I idea that should be propagated everywhere is Translucent powders. The use of these is the next best way to really punch up your makeup look, make it look more polished and professional. One of the great things, too, is that this step at the end of your makeup routine is appropriate from the full-faced everyday glamazons to the swipe of mascara, sweep of powder minimalists. Translucent powders control oil and shine as well as creating an extra barrier of protection between your skin, your makeup, and the elements. Here’s a few of my favorites!

#1 Laura Mercier’s Loose Setting Powder in Translucent, $34. This one is one of my absolute favorite products that I nary go a day without wearing. It’s unbelieveably finely milled, and If you’re skin’s normal/combination and behaving itself (which mine is NOT lately), I swear it lasts for 6 hours on the skin! I like the loose version because I feel like the application looks a little bit more flawless, but it does come pressed in a compact for easy portability, as well. ($30).

#2 Stila’s Hydrating Finishing Powder, $32. I love the snap open lid on this – a great point of differentiation! “It contains micro-encapsulated ectoin for time-released hydration as well as meadow seed extract for antioxidant protection.” The second ingredient is WATER! Your skin feels so silky and glass-like after dusting this on. It also has shea butter and meadowfoam seed oil for the ultimate hydration. Who ever thought a powder could perform like this!

#3 The Balm’s Sexy Mama – pressed translucent powder, $18. This is the budget version, much more portable than Laura Mercier’s loose version, and the effects are just about the same. Highly recommended!

#4 TooFaced’s Absolutely Invisible Sheer Pressed Powder, $22.50. THis is another great option, especially if you’re old school and like a firmly pressed and packed blotting powder. “Micronized pigments “float” on the skin to even out skin tone. An exclusive combination of complexion perfectors including seaweed extract, chamomile, vitamins A, C, and E, as well as soothing aloe vera help to increase elasticity, moisture, and firmness.”

Ladies, especially the oily-prone-what translucent powder stops the shine without settling into your lines!?
