It’s Fabulous Friday! Where Desertdoll brings you items worth the splurge…

I first discovered Shu Uemura the same way that many of you who know this line did, when I was introduced to their fabulous eyelash curler. But while it is indeed amazing (and was recently revamped so it’s even more so) every product I have tried I’ve loved more than the last and I am now an official devotee.

For me, it all begins with the packaging, the perfect combination of classic glamour and modern esthetics. Gorgeous yet minimal, always letting the product be the spotlight. Take one look at their entirely clear lipstick tubes and tell me it’s not a miniature piece of art.

Plus, the line always has an edge of mystery to it that only makes me love it more. Up till just recently, the only item available at Sephora was the curler. Even now they only carry a few shades of each product, and not even the whole line. So if you weren’t close to a boutique (which is likely since there are only 4 in the US) or a select high-end department store (Shu is sold at only 11 in California), you can only purchase it online. Plus, is it just me or is anything Japanese somehow hipper than everything else?

There are so many products I could highlight. I’ve recently bought the most perfect red lipstick I’ve ever owned (RD 190) that is sure to be in my arsenal from this point on. Their Muse holiday collection, designed by Shu’s US artistic director (and Madonna’s personal makeup artist) might just be the prettiest palette I’ve seen this season. Honestly, I could talk about the eyelash curler for the next 3 weeks alone!

But on a recent trip to South Coast Plaza, I met the gorgeous Paulina, manager of the boutique. She introduced me to their new Phyto-Black Lift skin care line, which Shu is calling the key to ageless skin, and I knew I had a Fabulous Friday post in my hands.

The Phyto-Black Lift line firms, reduces wrinkles and has a lifting effect on skin. Loaded with ingredients as unique as the line itself, 2 standouts include:

• Black Tea Ferment: Known as the Japanese elixir of long life (also called Kombucha). Helps firm and maintain elasticity by increasing the subcutaneous fat beneath the skin, and detoxify skin by removing all impurities.

• Black Sugar and Pro-Xylane™: A patented molecule that boosts collagen production and reduces the look of wrinkles. This visibly lifts and tightens the skin.

Combine these 2 with Litchi extract (a powerful anti-oxidant) and Shu’s signature Depsea water (from 200 meters deep in the Japanese ocean and rich with over 60 minerals and nutrients) and you’ve got a rather revolutionary skin care line.

I got to try the Radiance Boosting Lotion, a water based toner with natural exfoliating ingredients like Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Fruit extracts that gently remove accumulated dead cells (ones that make you look old and dull!)

I also received the Lifting Anti-Wrinkle Essence, a serum containing the highest concentration of the Black Sugar and Pro-Xylane complex, so this is really the powerhouse of the group for reducing fine lines and firming the skin. It’s also formulated with micro-silica so it acts as a primer, producing smoother skin.

Now here’s the big shocker-I love these products! They are both amazingly lightweight, but totally powerful. My skin looked brighter and fresher within a few days. Add to that the gorgeous black plum packaging and the absolutely refreshing scent and well…Shu Uemura has done it again.

Ladies, if you’ve tried any of the Phyto-Black Lift products, let us know your thoughts. Or if you just love Shu in general-share the joy!
