SAVIORS FOR THE OILY SKINNED – SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!!

Every Saturday Kate2004rock brings you Sephora information like only an insider can!

It’s just that time of year. When you get sort of greasy. Oily. It’s just humid and hot and you can’t walk from the front door to your car (or preferred eco-friendly method of public transportation) without all of your makeup just sliding right off your face! Sometimes I can just be sitting somewhere – even at 6 pm in the evening in a meeting or something and I can just feel that slime on my face and all I want to do is run in the other room and get some GooGone and wipe it away. That’s so gross. And for some unlucky ladies, this is every day! They are just oil pits! (No offense girls – but you know who you are!) Today I have decided to offer up some super-star products to stave off all that oiliness and keep you looking positively fresh and glowing!

One of the most important things that oil-prone skin-typers can do to keep the slime at bay is to make SURE to use a toner after cleansing and before moisturizing. I think that the Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a great one because it is dual-purpose. You can spritz it on your face before adding moisturizer. The witch hazel in it helps eliminate the oil and also kills bacteria and it still corrects the pH balance of your skin so that you don’t have Sebum overproduction. PLUS, you can also carry around the Beauty Elixir in your bag and keep it as a hydrating mist for throughout the day. You gotta stay hydrated to keep the oil away!

Another MUST is a great moisturizer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had women (and men) tell me that they’re oily-skinned and/or acne-prone so they don’t use a moisturizer because they don’t want to make it worse. That is so wrong! You need a moisturizer because it hydrates your skin and also often forms a humectant barrier holding the water IN your skin. Oil-production is often a result of de-hydration. I just got the new Umbrian Clay Face Lotion by Fresh and OMG it is fabulous. It glides right onto your skin and keeps you matte and my skin looks so even-toned. The Umbrian Clay is the not-so-secret ingredient because it’s actually a treatment ingredient to pull impurities out of your pores. Another great option is the Bliss No-Motion Lotion (who ever thought skincare could smell that GOOD!)

One big pitfall of oily skin is the tendency to have those friendly little blackheads, well…all over. For me its nose and chin. I just hate it! If you look in a magnifying mirror its like your skin is leopard print (LOL…that is so nasty but REALLY funny if I do say so myself.) A tip to help beat this system is to do a purifying clay mask 1-2 x per week. I love the Decleor Aroma Purete mask. Dr. Brandt’s Poreless Purifying Mask is good, and so are both of the Bliss masks: Steep Clean and the Instant Mattification 10-Minute Deep Cleaning Treatment (they are yummy).

If you follow up the mask with a pore-reducing serum you will be WOWed at the results. You can’t beat DermaDoctor’s Picture Porefect for this. It really tightens up the pores and keeps the clogged ones from oxidizing so they don’t turn black.

I realize that it is not practical to do a mask on your lunch break at the office. Instead dust your face with the Laura Mercier Loose (or pressed if you prefer) translucent powder once in the morning and maybe once after lunch. I swear your makeup stays put and it keeps the shine out of your life.

Oily toned ladies, chime in. What cuts your shine to a healthy glow?
