Kellie here, freezing and up to my neck in good old-fashioned Ohio lake effect snow! But never fear, I am at least attempting to persevere by keeping warm with hot chocolate and indulging in Frugal Luxuries. I was inspired by Meg’s awesome Urban Decay/LORAC giveaway. So today I will be covering a product from the luxurious LORAC line. I have to admit that I was completely in the dark about the brand until our beloved Gigi introduced me to it last year. Thank you! LORAC is a high quality line that is frequently used by celebrity make-up artists. You often see it in heavy rotation during the Hollywood awards season. But make no mistake, this is highly wearable make-up that is good for everyday and special events. You will see me mention LORAC products often in this column as they are true Frugal Luxuries.
Another subject that I will talk up a lot here is the remarkable value of a palette. Palettes are an excellent way to experience a luxury line. The LORAC Red Carpet Reveal Palette is no exception to this rule. I was able to get glam with this little beauty courtesy of LORAC. This palette is luxe from the moment you open it. It comes ensconced in a black velvet sleeve. Honestly, it is like the equivalent of a LBD for your make-up! The case itself is a sleek and sexy looking gunmetal with a little window for the colors to peek out of. This is the sort of thing that you want people to notice when you take it out of your bag! Once inside you will find a generous sized mirror and an incredibly useful double-sided eye brush. The palette comes with three eye shadow colors and one blush color. The shadows are Debut, Pose, and Interview. Debut is an ivory/cream highlighter or base color. Pose is a subtle bronze/brown color. Interview is a rich chocolate brown color. The blush is called Main Attraction. It is a warm rose color. Honestly, the blush could very easily be used for a shadow as well. These colors are very versatile and would certainly flatter a majority of skin tones. This collection is highly pigmented. If you are going for a more natural look I would suggest using a light hand. Alternatively, you can easily build the color for a more dramatic look. There is a very tasteful and subtle amount of shimmer in the shadows. While I suggest always using an eye primer I found these shadows to have minimal creasing even on their own. Although these are all powder in texture they glide on effortlessly like cream. They provide you with a very comfortable and overall pretty wear.
I would highly recommend this palette to anyone who is looking for something extremely versatile and wearable. It is exclusively sold at Sephora and retails for $35. This is a bargain in my book, especially considering the quality of the product and the amount of usage you will get out of it. You can wear this to work and then simple built up the color when you go out at night. Many high end brands sell one shadow pan for $18. And they often make you buy an empty palette for the shadow which is of course an added expense. So have no doubt that you are saving a lot here while simultaneously looking fabulous! My one wish would be for a blush brush to be included. But that would most likely not be practical for a lack of space. This palette is truly on par with more expensive brands such as Bobbi Brown and Chantecaille. You won’t go wrong with this gem.
My tip of the day: Frequently check out www.lorac.com. This company takes very good care of their customers. They frequently offer special sales and discounts. I am talking real savings here. Sometimes more than 50% off!!
