Scent is such a powerful thing, isn’t it? It can bring an image to your mind within a split second, whether a person or a place, you’re transported there in an instant. That’s pretty amazing for something that’s invisible.

I’m sure each of you has a smell that makes you smile because of the memory associated with it. Lilac reminds my Mom of her childhood and the house she grew up in because of the huge bushes that covered the back yard. Meg has mentioned how the scent of Victoria’s Secret Strawberries and Champagne body lotion makes her think of her friend Beautyzilla, as it was her favorite when they were living together in New York in their early 20’s. Mine’s a bit more strange…

To this day when I smell cow manure, I think of ice cream. Why? Because when I was a kid my favorite thing to do was to go to Meadow Brook Farms Dairy in Pennsylvania with my Grandparents to get ice cream. As we ate our cones, we walked around the dairy and looked at cows. To this day, I love both cows AND ice cream.

As odd as that sounds, it’s really not at all. Turns out your olfactory nerves are wired straight to your brain, where scent impulses virtually create instant memories. Makes sense that happiness can often be associated with an aroma. With that being said, it’s no wonder buying someone a fragrance can be tricky, it’s really a personal thing. But fragrance gifting just got a lot easier…

Enter Susanne Lang Parfumerie. The quote on her home page says it all to me “A sophisticated fragrance is a quiet luxury that is best discovered not announced.” Don’t you wish you could have that printed on a card to hand out to people? You know the people I’m talking about. The ones you smell before you see. The Lovely Meghan was kind enough to send me their Layering Wardrobe with a full size bottle of Cashmere ready to mix and match. What an amazing concept. 6 fragrances that would stand on their own with their unique gorgeousness, but their true beauty lies in the fact that they can all be mixed and layered for different moods or times of the day. There’s a combo for everyone lying in this pretty little brown box. The scents are: Midnight Orchid, Lotus Blossom, Cashmere, Tamboti Wood, Red Ginger, and Vanilla Coconut. Check out her website for detailed descriptions, Standouts for me are Cashmere-imagine if there was a scent to being wrapped in soft cashmere blanket on a crisp, fall night. This is it. And Midnight Orchid, a totally intoxicating mix of Egyptian jasmine, soft musk and a true vanilla. But a dash of any of the other scents can totally change them. A totally customizable fragrance experience and the perfect gift. Though you’re absolutely going to need one for yourself too to create some new memories.

So tell me Ladies, what scents transport you and to where? Perfume or otherwise…
